will see the Son of Man, sitting at the right hand of Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.’17 Jesus’ reply combines the witness of Psalm 110:1 and Daniel 7:13–14; the ‘sitting’ of Psalm 110 refers to his ruling and waiting; the ‘coming’ of Daniel 7 to his arrival as judge. Incredible as it seems, the time will come when Caiaphas and company will see the Son of Man not as a prisoner in their dock but as judge at his assize. I want to come back to the function of verses 9–14 in their context.
